Long Distance Relationships: 5 Tips to Deal with the Distance this Valentine’s Day by Andy9 Angelo9
Maintaining a long distance relationship is often a tough task for a couple. Whether you and your partner have found yourselves at different Universities, different jobs in different regions, or even in different countries, everyone knows that long distance relationships can be a strain on any couple. If you’re apart this Valentine’s Day, it’s not impossible to work through the distance, and there are many little ways to ensure that your partner knows that you’re still thinking about them.
Exchange letters. It may sound simple, but there’s nothing quite as personal as a hand written letter that somebody has put time and care into. For the more techno-minded of you there are always emails, but there’s something about a hand written letter that has always seemed somewhat more personal and penning a love letter come Valentine’s Day, borrows from a poetic Romantic tradition.
Send flowers. It sounds obvious, but little gestures like sending your loved one a bunch of their favourite flowers is a great way to remind them that you’re still thinking of them despite the distance. Gestures like this are always best if there’s some thought put into them, so pick a company who will allow you to pick and choose a bouquet to send that is best suited to your partner’s tastes. Interflora provides an online service where you can choose from several options including size, colour and occasion, which is a quick and easy way to provide a personal touch when Valentine’s Day draws near. They offer a flowery delivery service too, so should you do the unforgivable and forget - you can get a dozen roses to your loved one’s door just in time.
Save up for a surprise visit. Yes, it may be expensive, but there’s nothing that shows how much you want to be with someone quite like actually being with them! For those who find themselves at different ends of the country, with today’s public transport system trips across the UK can be surprisingly cheap. Book in advance and you can find yourself on a train from London to Glasgow for only £28 return. Of course, it won’t be quite as cheap if you find yourselves in different countries, but again there are some surprisingly good deals available on flights, providing you plan ahead and don’t try to do it all on the spur of the moment. If you do manage to spend the day together, you can also save up for a pair of tickets to a romantic city like Paris, where you can spend some concentrated quality couple time in a whole new setting.
Meet in the middle. You may be separated by counties or countries, but if you’re both willing to make the effort then it’s always possible to meet in the middle. Pick somewhere interesting - maybe a place you’ve never been before, maybe somewhere you both love - that falls roughly halfway between where the two of you are, and make a special trip of it. If you both take time out from your schedules to have some time just to yourselves, it removes any temptation to let other bits of life get in the way of the time you set aside for each other.
