The First 30 Minutes Of The DayBy Mark Hunter

The first 30 minutes of the workday will set the tone for the entire day. For most people, the first half hour of the day consists of settling into the office routine by grabbing a cup of coffee, checking the internet, and, of course, chatting with others. Now, I will never be one to say we have to avoid coffee and/or socializing, but I will be the first to say it is advantageous to put these activities aside until later.

One of the ways that top-performing salespeople separate themselves from others is by effectively using the first 30 minutes of the day. It is highly beneficial to your productivity to know exactly what you are going to accomplish during this period. Therefore, you must determine the day before what you intend to do when you first arrive in the morning. For anyone in sales, this means one thing: start the day by making a minimum of three sales calls before you do anything else.

To begin using this strategy, your objective today (and everyday in the future) should be to identify three people you want to call first thing tomorrow morning. There is no better way to start the day than by calling customers. If you are the type of person who arrives in the office early, your phone calls will wind up going straight to voicemail. Great! In fact, using voicemail is an effective way to demonstrate to others that you are a hard working individual and you take your relationships seriously. For those of you who have a large number of clients, this is also a perfect way to personally reach out to them, while not having to wind up in a long, drawn-out telephone conversation.

In addition to beginning the workday more productively, you will also find yourself warmed up to make additional phone calls throughout the day. This will help you overcome a very common problem among anyone in sales: the initial reluctance to make the first call of the day. Many studies have shown that people waste on average 15 minutes each day just getting ready to make that first call. It is ironic to think that you will have made three phone calls in the time it takes the average salesperson to even start making theirs.

An additional benefit of this plan will come when you begin applying this same principle to the first 15 minutes after returning from lunch. Use that time to make three prospecting calls. Again, you will find yourself becoming productive faster and you will be less likely to find yourself at the end of the day looking back to realize that you did not make the phone calls you needed to.

By establishing these habits, you will increase the number of phone calls you make every day from utilizing time that, in the past, was unproductive. Make it part of your routine at the end of each day to identify both the three people you intend to contact the next morning and the three you’ll contact after lunch. Do not fall into the trap of thinking you’ll come up with the names the next day because the chances of you actually contacting those people will fall dramatically.

Easy, Cheap And Elegant Decorating For Valentines!

By Kathy Wilson

So you just got all the holiday decorations put away (or maybe you didn’t!) and here comes another holiday… Valentines! Never fear, I have some great budget friendly ideas for quick and easy decorations you can use to dress up any room of your home and show all your loved ones how much you care!

Dress up your everyday dining area with heart shaped placemats. Pick up some large red or pink craft foam sheets from your craft store and trace and cut a large heart shape from each one with a pair of sharp scissors. Use a gold paint pen and write a one word romantic sentiment in the center of each one, just like the “message heart” candies of our youth! Edge the hearts with squiggles and swirls, or perhaps personalize each placemat with a name of a family member. These will wipe clean with a damp cloth, and add loving style to each meal!

Pick up four or six silk flowers and a small roll of wire edged ribbon (white, red, or pink) from your discount store and tie one flower each to the back of each of your dining chairs. Make the bow larger than you normally would for drama. The wire edge will allow you to shape the bow into a full, romantic style. Use leftover ribbon to add some romance to your front door wreath, your mailbox, or a big bow on the headboard of your bed!

Buy an inexpensive floral bouquet from the supermarket and spilt it into two or three smaller bunches. Add some evergreen cuttings from the yard, and display it in pretty creamers, teacups, and bud vases. Flowers speak of love and family, but it doesn’t need to be a $50 bouquet of roses to add romance to the room!

Take some time to set a romantic table for that special Valentines Day dinner, not only for that special someone, but for all the loved ones in your life! You can do this with things you already own! Layer the table coverings with quilts, tablecloths and placemats. Layer your dishware as well, with a large plate, saucer, and bowl, and tuck napkins into your drinking glasses. Don’t be afraid to mix and match your dinnerware, it adds style! Pick up a pack of paper doilies from the dollar shop, and scatter them across the table. Get the kids in on the day by giving them some red or pink giftwrap, tissue paper, or construction paper and a couple of paper punches, and allow them to make confetti to sprinkle over the table!

Lastly, don’t forget to add candles to your Valentines home. They are inexpensive at any discount store or dollar shop, and can be displayed in groups on old picture frames as trays, or in front of mirrors to double your romantic style! Drop tealights into teacups or mason jars, and tie a ribbon around the outside.

Remember, romance is good for the soul, and it’s easy to bring a little of it into our homes to show our love for those around us!

Sock-It-To-You ValentinesBy Scarlett O’Cheesecake

Francine adopted a philosophical attitude the moment the stores replaced the Christmas decorations with the Valentine merchandise. Presto! Hearts of red or pink or of polka dots seemed to be everywhere. There were flat hearts, embossed hearts, box hearts. Aisles of greeting cards were awash with Valentines to my beloved, to my sweetheart, to mom, to my ex. Ex? What desperate card writer came up with that idea? Candy counters featured stacks of Valentine chocolates packed, of course, in heart-shaped boxes. Atop cosmetic display cases were bottles of perfume, tubes of shower gels and hand creams. The florists’ phones rang off the hook with orders for everything from mini bouquets to wheelbarrows of red roses. As for the shops that promoted romance’s earthy side, there was lingerie of silk, satin, lace, and engineering marvels of strings attached to small squares of material.

This year there would be no special Valentine for Francine. She who had enjoyed the attention of many admirers was admirer-less. “Like socks,” she thought. “They’ve disappeared, just like my socks. A matched pair goes into the wash but only one makes it through the dryer.” She was relieved when some swains wandered away and sometimes sad when others did; but when the winnowing out left no potential suitor in the wings, she was philosophical – all through January.

But on the first day of February, her mood plunged from philosophical to deep funk.

She stood in front of a mirror and stared at herself. Staring back was an attractive woman of average height and weight who at age 32 was accomplished and confident. She forced a smile. Even a faked smile gave a lift to her image, and she changed from pleasing to look at to someone who turned heads. She laughed and struck a haughty pose. She tossed her hair. She flirted with herself. She stopped smiling and spoke to the mirror.

“If I, adorable me is feeling like I’m chopped liver, how may others feel who life passes by every week, month after month?” She scolded herself. “Francine, you should be ashamed!” And in that moment, a plan was born. She made a phone call and went grocery shopping. She told her boss that due to a morning appointment on the 14th, she wouldn’t be in until after lunch.

She spent the weekend in the kitchen. She leafed through cookbooks. She rifled through the newspaper recipes she had clipped and dropped in a folder. She made soup by the quart. Dozens of muffins. Bowls of salads. Deviled dozens of eggs (and opened the windows). Vegetable casseroles and macaroni and cheese. Cookies. And her specialty, mini cheese cakes. In the evenings, she sat at the kitchen table and created Valentines out of construction paper, doilies, glitter and ribbons.

On the morning of Valentine’s Day, she loaded her van with the food and the Valentines. She stopped at the florist’s and wrestled a bouquet of heart-shaped balloons into the back of the van. At the homeless shelter, she parked outside the service entrance. The kitchen crew helped with the unloading and warming the soups and casseroles. The director was astounded at the quantity of food Francine had prepared. When the residents trooped in for lunch, the buffet table was flanked at one end by two tureens of steaming soup and at the far end, the platters of deserts. In between were the deviled eggs, salads, and casseroles. At each table there was a Valentine heart balloon and at every place setting, a Valentine.

The director said, “It was wonderful of you to do this, so thoughtful.”

Francine said, “This was a selfish act. I did it for me.”

She collected her pots and pans, swung through a drive-through for a hamburger, and was at her desk by one o’clock.

Three days later, she received a large envelope that contained letters on scraps of paper written by many of the shelter’s residents, thanking her for the delicious food, but mostly thanking her for remembering them on Valentine’s Day. One said that she hadn’t had a Valentine since she was a little girl; one from a man said it was the first Valentine of his life. Another from a woman said that she ate two cheesecake tarts because she couldn’t believe the first one could have tasted so good. “But it did!” she said. “The second one was proof!”

Francine spread the messages on her bed. She counted 19. A few writers had drawn lopsided hearts on their notes. “These are the most Valentines I ever received at one time!” she thought. She smiled. And then because she felt so warmed inside, she cried.

Budget Friendly Valentines Day Gifts

By Oliver Green

Most people are still trying to recover from overspending during the Christmas holidays. Unfortunately Valentines Day is right around the corner! According to the National Retail Federation the average consumer will spend over $100 on Valentine’s Day gifts this year. Consumer trends aside, this is an important holiday so we’ve identified some gifts ideas that will please your loved ones as well as your wallet!

This Valentines Day stop and smell the roses but avoid floral arrangements from the corner store or supermarket. Instead opt for an exotic flower from the botanical gardens near you. In fact for an exciting pre Valentines Day outing check out the Lunar New Years Celebration and Flower Market on February 10, 2007 at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens (http://www.bbg.org). We love this event because it has everything: fresh exotic flowers, cuisine from the Far East as well as lively musical and dance performances. Admission into the BBG is $5.00 per person while the fresh flowers and food are available for an additional nominal cost. The Lunar New Years Celebration and Flower Market at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens is a budget friendly and fun-filled pre-Valentines Day outing!

Candy is always a good idea especially if you recently started dating and want to impress your partner. This year avoid generic heart shaped candy and chocolate gift box sets available at discount retailers! Instead go for luxury and sophistication. Come on. Try a sweet treat from Vosges Haut-Chocolat, the brain child of Katrina Markoff. Markoff is a classically trained confectionary artist and graduate of Le Cordon Bleu a fine culinary institution in Paris. Markoff creates delicious treats infused with exotic spices and ingredients from around the world. There are several delicious Valentines Day gift box sets. We suggest the Gatsby Truffle Collection, which is available in two sizes and ranges in price from $27.00 to $41.00. This collection is a combination of white and dark chocolate truffles each topped with rose petals! Vosges Haut-Chocolat can be purchased at boutique stores, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman or online. Vosges Haut-Chocolat is a great elegant alternative to generic Valentines Day candy!

Clearly, if you’ve been dating awhile you need to come up with something unique. Not to worry this can be done on a budget as well! Check out the arts and leisure section in your local newspaper. This section is filled with interesting events. Fortunately for us, Manhattan is known for its arts and culture scene. We suggest the sexy and sultry Flamenco Festival. There are several interesting events to choose from and ticket prices are within the $30.00 to $70.00 range. Prior to selected performances, ticket holders can participate in complimentary flamenco dance classes taught by a flamenco master!

Finally if you’d done the flowers and candy year after year or can’t dance, keep it simple and treat your partner to a special dinner. We suggest dining in style! Try L’ECOLE, the restaurant at the French Culinary Institute of New York City! L’ECOLE has received rave reviews in several major gourmet magazines. Patrons are treated to fine cuisine prepared by FCI students. Each course is pleasing to the pallet and presented artfully. Two patrons can enjoy a five course meal at L’ECOLE for under $100! Dining at L’ECOLE is a great way to impress your significant other and remain within a tight budget. But be forewarned, reservations are required and seating tends to go fast.

Ultimately, Valentines Day is about showing your partner the extent of your appreciation! So be creative. You don’t have to break the bank to communicate how much you care this Valentines Day! A simple “I love you always” does the trick as well.

To make this day special for your loved one, you need to become a bit careful and observant in the selection of a gift. Well, there are varieties available in the market for men and women both.

We can also get gifts online. There are websites devoted to gifts, together with fun ones. When you see items that you like you may go to an auction site like eBay and see if they have those items at bargain prices, which often times they do.

On this lovely occasion of Valentine’s Day, express your love, care & respect to your dear valentine by sending online gifts to our loved ones with a magnificent range. There are exclusive and wide online collection of Valentine’s day gifts like Romantic Gift Hampers for Him/her, Flowers, Jewelry, Apparel, Chocolates, Cakes and lot more unique gift ideas that would be most suitable for the special occasion of Valentine’s Day.

No gift says “I love you” on Valentine’s Day like a bouquet of roses. Thanks to their beauty and fragrance, red roses have long been a Valentine’s Day symbol. The lovely combination of fresh-looking and fresh-cut red roses accented with white orchids is a perfect way to cherish the Valentine’s Day.

If you know your love is true you can still find a great way to express that in a Valentine’s Day gift. In fact gift giving on Valentine’s Day is such a big industry that there are endless amounts of gifts that are especially made for this lovely day.

There are some ideas for online Valentine’s Day gifts. One, a Kitchy Cornucopia of Valentine Fun, that is, if your Valentine is bored by heart-shaped boxes, look to Fred Flare for funky and vintage-inspired clothing, accessories, and home goods. Other one can be Personalized Sweetheart Lockets. A gift of jewelry is nice, but an engraved piece becomes unusual. Use a pet nickname, a simple monogram, or an old-fashioned and cute JM + ML. Three, Redenvelope is a gift-givers favorite site, as they are teeming with quality presents for everyone. The new twist on an old classic with the leather ID bracelet is a good idea. It features double strands of pink leather and an authentic silver identification plaque.

For guys, the boxer shorts that can be modified with a nickname are great. If you don’t have a pet name for him, something along the lines of ‘World’s Best Lover’ should make most men smile and if your sweetheart is far away, create a personalized online greeting card with your own photo that you upload.

Well, there are also varieties in last minute Valentine’s Day gifts of desperation like stuffed animal, book of love poetry, heart-shaped cake or cupcakes and lots more. Even if your gift is acquired last minute, your thoughtfulness and generosity will be appreciated and the good feelings will last long past Valentine’s Day.

How to Make a Valentines Day Flyer
By Robert Nugent

Making a flyer for Valentines Day is simple once you have a general idea of the types of graphics and images to use that relate to this special holiday. Here’s a couple strategies to help you get ideas for your flyers design.

Browse the Internet for free templates. With a little help from the search engines, you can find some of the best free resources to create a flyer that stands out from the crowd. Search Google and type in the words “free Valentines Day flyer templates”. Look at some of the templates. What type of images and graphics are other people using in their flyers design? Take notes about the designs you like, then ask your graphic designer to create something similar- but even better.

Add a Valentines Day related headline in your flyer. Create a headline that goes with the holiday and make sure you keep your business name at the bottom of the flyer with all your other contact information. This way people focus on your message and the benefits of your special event. Try not to spend all month thinking of the best headline in the world. Even a traditional headline like happy Valentines Day will work if you have a hard time thinking of something sharp.

Remember the K.I.S.S. principal - “Keep it simple cupid”

Determine your target audience. Is your message going to be geared towards men, women, or even both? Think about the type of person that will be receiving your flyers. Then you can write a message that will reach peoples hearts.

Include a strict deadline with your call to action. Remind people that your special event is for a limited time only. Remind them of the benefits they will miss if they do not act now. Last but not least, tell them what to do next. Make reservations, order today for faster shipping, and so on…

Send your flyers out ahead of time. People start making plans for the holidays early. Distribute your flyers a week in advance to spread the word about your special event. Remember, people ask each other what they have planned for their holiday. This is when they talk about your business and make suggestions to their friends, family, or even their coworkers, resulting in more sales and revenue for your business.

Now you know how to make a Valentines Day flyer that stands out from the crowd. Have your flyers printed in large quantities to reach a large share of the holiday shoppers.

Robert just launched a new website that has tons of valuable flyer Printing tips at http://cheapflyerprinting.net In addition, you can learn dozens of cost effective flyer distribution strategies by going to Flyer Distribution
