The colder months of ice and snow are often neglected when considering romance because they are so often compared with steamier nights when the air is warm and the clothing more revealing. Winter, however, offers an array of possibilities for romance which can only be enjoyed during this time of year.

Winters of long ago were a dangerous time for many societies around the world. A time when warmth was difficult to come by, food was scarce and roads were treacherous presented quite a problem for many. Though the winters of today may not be problem free, most of the old concerns of have been wiped out by our society’s modern approach to fighting back the ice and snow.

Despite the very different perception people of today might have about winter, some of the oldest traditions during the colder months still remain useful, especially when it comes to dating. From streets decorated in bright colors to hot drinks at the ski lodge seemingly straight out of romance books, winter certainly offers some wonderful possibilities for dating or finding that special someone.

Outdoor Excitement:

Not so many years ago the cold months of winter chased most people inside and away from the dangers that lurked in the ice and snow. Today many people enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities that can only be enjoyed during the winter months.

Many of the outdoor interests during the winter months are also ideal for dating. Not only do so many of the activities present an enjoyable time for couples, but something about the winter atmosphere is often conducive to making meaningful connections.

* Skiing/Snowboarding: Whether you’re an expert on the slopes or are setting out for the first time on the bunny hill, skiing/snowboarding can be a wonderful way to share a day with someone that you find special. After the days’ exhilaration you and your sweetheart can go back to the lodge and enjoy one of the great classics in romance: a hot drink by a warm fire.

* Ice Skating: Another classic amongst romantic settings is the ice skating rink, surrounded by winter, with the adorable couple laughing as they attempt gracefulness. Regardless of your skill on the ice, heading out to share an activity like this can create a wonderful atmosphere for a date. Many skating rink also decorate especially around this time of year, which can boost the romantic setting; consider how ideal a kiss would be under a Christmas wreath or sprig of mistletoe.

* Snow Frolic: Another classic that many couples have enjoyed requires no more traveling than your own back yard. Building a Christmas snowman, or snow sculpture of any kind, can be a wonderfully romantic experience when shared with the right person.

The chilling temperatures outdoors can truly offer some wonderful ways to heat up your dating life. Remember to always take the proper safety precautions when facing the cold and be sure to have a nice, warm place to retreat to for the steamier portion of your date.

Holiday Excitement:

While there are certainly some drawbacks during the holidays, crazy shoppers, far too much traffic and often major budget crunches, there are many perks to pursuing a holiday romance.

* Warmth and Generosity: Despite some of the chaos around the holidays there are actually quite a few people who generally just feel happier around this time of year. Taking advantage of what some feel is a special time can also be an excellent opportunity for romance. The inspiring warmth that some feel may cause them to greet the general opportunity of romance without the usual hesitation or misgivings.

The general idea that during this time of year many people feel that a generous nature is important may also prove to be useful if you find it difficult to approach others and often find that you are turned away before being given much of a chance.

* Special Circumstances: The holidays give anyone looking for a love a wonderful array of excuses to spend time with someone that they have perhaps been too shy to ask out. Requesting help or advice with winter, Hanukkah or Christmas party decorations may give you the opportunity to invite that special someone without seeming too formal.

Giving out special cards or Christmas gifts to a few people in your social circle allows you to give one to the person you’ve had your eye on without being too forward. Giving just the right gift may allow you the opportunity to get to know a person better and perhaps ask them out on a date.

For those that enjoy the holiday festivities it can be a time of great joy that many are eager to share with that special someone. The constant reminder of family finds many lonely hearts eager to make a match and more open to the idea of making time in their busy lives for romance.
