It can be quite maddening for a woman to find herself emotionally abandoned by the man she loves. Before she overreacts, however, she must first try to figure out what is causing him to pull back.
He feels worthless.
One thing a man cannot understand is how a woman could love him despite being a “failure”. His low self-esteem can stem from financial insecurity, problems with his job, etc. It really doesn’t help smothering him with so much attention at this point - the best support his woman could give him is some space to think and sort things out.
He feels his emotions are out of control.
A man may need to put some distance from a woman when he thinks he is starting to feel strongly towards her and realizes that he is starting to lose control of his emotions. This can be pretty scary for a man to experience, since they are naturally fearful of getting too involved.
He is afraid of losing his total freedom.
It is only when a man fears that he would lose the woman he loves that he somehow overcomes his fear of losing his “freedom”.
He is afraid of making the wrong choice.
Commitment is a heavy word for a man and usually, when he makes a choice to commit, he wants to be sure he is committing to right person. He may need to withdraw to assess this.
He feels vulnerable.
He might be afraid of getting hurt. This may stem from a previous relationship and he is afraid of letting someone else penetrate the natural emotional barriers he had set up to protect himself.
He fears responsibility and maturity.
It goes without saying, most men are just big boys. They would avoid being responsible and mature unless they really have to face it. And unless they really feel they are ready to grow up.
He has lost attraction.
Many men cannot stand the sight of a woman crying. They would run away from it if they can. If a man is no longer interested, chances are he doesn’t know how to break it to her gently. So, he drifts away instead.
While a woman talks outside her head, a man talks inside his. It is best for a woman to simply give her man some space to think and sort things out, and to continue with her life. He’ll bounce back — eventually.
